Job Description
Job DescriptionPerform aircraft painting operations on 787 program aircraft sections, including surface preparation, primer application, finishing, and exterior marking installation. Support production activities by interpreting engineering specifications, applying multi-stage paint processes, and maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and training requirements.

- Education & Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent and typically 1+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1+ years of painting experience in aircraft, automotive, or general painting
- Experience working from heights and using fall protection equipment
- Ability to complete the Fall Protection Training
- Working knowledge of adhesive materials and processes, including epoxy, urethane, polyimide, and reinforcements
- Understanding of color analysis, paint formulation, color matching, and paint application techniques
- Capability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Familiarity with shop processes, including FOD prevention, material handling, safety, calibration requirements, and ESD
- Hands-on experience with material processing for metals, polymers, composites, sealants, finishes, ceramics, and electronic materials
- Understanding of organic chemical processing, including top-coating, priming, and surface cleaning
- Knowledge of polymers and composite materials, including carbon, fiberglass, aramid, adhesives, and thermoset/thermoplastic resins
- Understanding and interpreting detailed written and verbal work instructions and processes
- Ability to handle, use, and dispose of hazardous material
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Preferred Skills
- Aircraft paint experience
- 3+ years of aerospace paint experience
- Relevant experience painting multi-stage paint processes, including base coat and clear coat applications at a large scale using compressed air
- Previous Boeing aircraft experience
- Job Duties & Functions
- Perform painting of aircraft sections according to customer design and livery requirements
- Verify aircraft readiness prior to exterior finish application
- Create patterns, complete layouts, and apply prescribed primers, paints, and finishes to aircraft exteriors
- Prepare aircraft exterior surfaces for painting operations
- Apply aircraft finishes and external markings to aircraft sections
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and process documentation to support paint operations
- Operate painting equipment and compressed air systems for multi-stage paint applications
- Handle adhesive materials, primers, sealants, and organic chemical processing materials in accordance with procedures
- Maintain compliance with FOD prevention, material handling, calibration, and ESD requirements
- Support production schedules across all assigned shifts based on business needs
- Utilize fall protection equipment while working at heights on elevated platforms
- Attend and successfully complete required classroom and on-site training programs
- Follow safety procedures while using personal protective equipment for face, eyes, ears, hands, and arms
- Coordinate with production teams to maintain quality and workflow requirements
- Maintain accurate adherence to written and verbal work instructions during paint operations
- Physical Requirements & Environment
- Lift less than 25 pounds and occasionally lift 21-35 pounds
- Perform bending, twisting, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching, climbing, balancing, and flexion/extension movements
- Stand for extended periods on flat and uneven surfaces
- Work on elevated platforms and ladders ranging from 3-12 feet
- Perform frequent overhead reaching for 3 to 6 hours
- Complete occasional finger manipulation activities for 1 to 3 hours
- Operate foot controls and perform head and neck rotation movements
- Work in environments with exposure to sealants, solvents, plastics, metals, atmospheric conditions, and frequent noise
- Use personal protective equipment for face, eyes, ears, hands, and arms as required
- Handle hazardous materials in accordance with safety procedures
- Obtain and maintain Fall Protection Certification
- Attend and pass required training classes as a contingency of assignment
