Job Description

Develops and validates requirements, architectures, designs, analyses, and tests for complex electro-optical, laser, sensor, communication, and electromagnetic systems and components. The role supports development of high-performance Directed Energy Systems and Electro-Optical Systems through requirements development, trade studies, modeling and simulation, system integration, testing, lifecycle support, supplier and partner coordination, project management, and proposal development.

• Education & Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a non-U.S. equivalent qualification directly related to the work statement
• 5+ years of related experience
• Education or work experience in Electro-Optics
• Experience with Electro-Optical systems, including specifications, tolerances, simulations, assembly, integration, and testing of fiber optic sensors, systems, and components
• Experience with sensors, lasers, fiber optics, and telecommunications products
• Experience in laser and electro-optical systems and optical communication systems requirements development, integration, testing, and analysis
• Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, or maintenance manuals

• Preferred Skills
• Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams
• Experience in electro-optical design and analysis using Zemax, CodeV, or an equivalent software design package
• Experience performing analysis on EO/IR systems
• ABET accreditation preferred, but not required
• Master’s degree with 7 or more years of experience
• PhD with 4 or more years of experience

• Job Duties & Functions
• Develop and validate requirements for electro-optical systems, sensors, lasers, and other electromagnetic systems and components
• Develop architectures that integrate multiple systems into higher-level systems and platforms
• Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation, and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnect, and system performance
• Optimize designs around established and complex requirements
• Design complex electro-optical and laser systems
• Develop new and improved modeling and simulation techniques
• Define and implement critical tests to validate design performance against requirements
• Provide guidance and support throughout the product lifecycle to resolve complex issues
• Manage appropriate aspects of critical supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance with requirements
• Support project management by coordinating development of statements of work, budgets, schedules, and other required inputs
• Conduct appropriate project reviews
• Generate major sections of large-scale proposals to support development of new business
• Perform some work in a clean room environment
