Job Description

Perform complex production assembly operations involving structural parts, mechanical assemblies, subassemblies, aircraft systems, equipment, and accessories using manual or automated assembly tools. Support final spacecraft integration, Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) installations, testing, and launch operations by following released work instructions and established engineering specifications.

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Education & Job Requirements
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 4+ years of experience in mechanical assembly for high-reliability products, preferably aerospace products
    • Hands-on work building and terminating wiring harnesses to a high standard for racks and boxes
    • 1+ year of experience working with MLI/thermal blankets
    • Hands-on use of hand tools, including scalpels, scissors, and hollow punches
    • Technical proficiency interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, harness wiring diagrams, and internal and external specifications
    • Skilled use of inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, digital multimeters (DMM), and depth gauges
    • Background with assembly tooling and/or composites fabrication and assembly
    • Proficiency using various hand and power tools
    • Knowledge of mixing epoxy materials

    • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, or maintenance manuals
    • Preferred Skills
    • 5+ years of experience with Integration
    • Certification to J-STD-001 space and NASA.STD.8739.4
    • Industry certification and/or Trade School training
    • Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
    • Clean room environment experience
    • Ability to generate discrepancy reports as they occur in areas of influence
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Job Duties & Functions
    • Work from preliminary design drawings, sketches, blueprints, schematics, and verbal and written instructions to determine appropriate methods for integrating designs and meeting production and laboratory requirements
    • Execute assembly and integration tasks to precise tolerances using methods that meet engineering specifications
    • Operate specialized equipment during spacecraft assembly, including hydraulic test consoles, cooling system test consoles, alignment fixtures, and installation fixtures
    • Determine the sequence of operations and install components in space vehicles before testing
    • Complete system leak and pressure checks along with alignment checks of control surfaces
    • Handle fragile multi-layer insulation (MLI) films and materials during installation onto test and flight articles
    • Support installation of MLI and SLI (Solid-Layer Insulation) on spacecraft
    • Assist engineers and research staff in identifying improved procedures and perform assigned duties at specific test stations
    • Record and analyze test data while generating reports, charts, and graphs
    • Acquire necessary certifications and perform incidental related duties and rework as needed
    • Demonstrate knowledge of applicable materials and process specifications
    • Provide instruction, guidance, and support to colleagues in the same or related classifications
    • Apply mechanical principles to assigned tasks
    • Support range operations, including tests, integration, and hardware moves
    • Operate computer-controlled equipment, including heated tools, ovens, positioners, alignment systems, lift equipment, cranes, and hand and power tools
    • Perform other duties as assigned
