Job Description

Perform aircraft painting operations involving complex surface preparation, application of multi-coat paint systems, and finishing of aircraft structures and components. Execute sanding, masking, priming, coating, and refinishing activities while ensuring compliance with technical drawings, paint specifications, and quality standards. Identify and correct surface and finish defects while maintaining adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

    • Education & Job Requirements
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • 4 – 6 years of aircraft painting experience, with documented experience applying advanced finishes.
    • Familiarity with aviation painting standards and regulations.
    • Demonstrated experience in training/mentoring junior painters and performing quality inspections.
    • Proven competence in applying complex paint systems and specialty finishes.Strong ability to match colors and produce consistent finishes.
    • Proficient with advanced spray equipment, mixing systems, and measuring tools (e.g., wet-film/DFT gauges).
    • Solid understanding of paint chemistry and how environmental conditions affect application and cure.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
    • Thorough knowledge of inspection methods, quality acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements.
    • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions to correct process issues.
    • Strong coaching and communication skills; able to train and lead less-experienced team members.
    • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance (environmental and company policies).
    • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering work orders, and paint specifications
    • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
    • Preferred Skills
    • Technical certificate in coatings, painting, or related field
    • Experience training or mentoring junior painters
    • Experience performing quality inspections and documentation of paint work
    • Knowledge of paint chemistry and environmental effects on application and curing
    • Experience using HVLP or air-assisted spray systems and advanced application equipment
    • Job Duties & Functions
    • Apply complex paint systems, including metallic, specialty, and multi-coat finishes to aircraft structures and components
    • Prepare aircraft surfaces through sanding, masking, taping, and priming prior to coating application
    • Operate spray equipment and maintain application systems used for coatings and finishes
    • Perform touch-up, refinishing, and blending activities to restore surface quality and appearance
    • Mix and match paint colors, tints, and coatings to meet specification requirements
    • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards and acceptance criteria
    • Document painting activities, inspections, and work order completion requirements
    • Troubleshoot surface defects and implement corrective actions to resolve process issues
    • Maintain clean and safe work areas in compliance with environmental and safety procedures
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to painting processes and quality
    • Physical Requirements & Environment
    • Ability to stand, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
    • Exposure to solvents and airborne particulates requiring strict PPE compliance
    • Required use of respirators, gloves, and protective coveralls
    • Ability to lift and handle painting materials and equipment within company limits
