Job Description

Perform materials engineering analysis of aerospace hardware to evaluate compliance with military specifications and support material selection, characterization, and qualification activities. Review designs, assess material requirements, and support testing, failure analysis, and environmental compatibility evaluations for aerospace applications.

    • Education & Job Requirements
    • 3+ years of experience working to MIL-STD-11991 requirements and developing non-standard part approval requests (NSPARs) for Department of Defense organizations
    • 2 - 4 years of experience with Composites and Materials
    • 6+ years of experience with a Metallics Background
    • Possess knowledge of the fundamentals of metal fabrication, including sheets, plates, castings, and forgings
    • Apply knowledge of the fundamentals of composite fabrication
    • Exhibit a strong understanding of corrosion control, including galvanics, dissimilar materials, and coatings
    • Apply knowledge of flammability control requirements
    • Demonstrate prior experience interpreting manufacturer datasheets, source control drawings, and Bills of Material
    • Demonstrate understanding of outgassing principles and requirements
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, or maintenance manuals
    • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
    • Preferred Skills
    • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Physics
    • 1 - 2 years of experience with Non-Metallic Materials
    • 1 - 2 years of experience with Weld Engineering
    • Job Duties & Functions
    • Review aerospace hardware designs and evaluate compliance with military specifications, including MIL-STD-11991
    • Assess electrical and electronic equipment designs, including piece parts, circuit card assemblies, wires and harnesses, and electromechanical assemblies
    • Develop non-standard part approval requests (NSPARs) for Department of Defense organizations
    • Interpret manufacturer datasheets, source control drawings, and Bills of Material
    • Support analysis and characterization of metallic and non-metallic materials and processing techniques to meet procurement, design, and operational requirements
    • Conduct failure analyses to determine material performance and the root cause of deficiencies
    • Perform mechanical testing activities to evaluate material properties and suitability
    • Execute corrosion studies to assess environmental effects on materials and assemblies
    • Evaluate tribological characteristics of materials and related processing techniques
    • Assess environmental compatibility of materials for aerospace applications
