Job Description

The SMT Assembler operates automated pick and place equipment to assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs) in a high-mix, high-volume manufacturing environment. The role performs machine setup, inspection, soldering, rework, and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with IPC standards and production quality requirements. Supports continuous manufacturing flow while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards.

    • $23.00 - $26.00/hr
    • Education & Job Requirements
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • Minimum 2 years of SMT assembly experience in a high-mix, high-volume production environment
    • Proficient with operating automated pick and place equipment, including setup, calibration, and parameter adjustments (placement speed, vision settings, nozzle height)
    • Strong understanding of SMT component families (0201 1206, QFN, BGA, CSP, and FCBGA)
    • Conducts visual inspection with a microscope and automated inspection (AOI, SPI) to detect defects, including bridges, tombstoning, misplacements, solder shorts, and insufficient wetting
    • Working knowledge IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 standards throughout assembly and inspection processes
    • Performs troubleshooting of equipment alarms, feeder jams, and placement accuracy issues
    • Performs routine cleaning, nozzle checks, and preventive maintenance on pick and place machines and reflow ovens
    • Knowledge of RoHS and lead-free soldering processes required
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
    • Job Duties & Functions
    • Operates automated pick and place equipment for PCB assembly
    • Loads and configures feeders, boards, and solder paste systems
    • Adjusts machine parameters to ensure accurate component placement
    • Performs manual soldering and rework on SMT components
    • Inspects assemblies using AOI, SPI, microscopes, and visual inspection techniques
    • Identifies and documents assembly defects and production issues
    • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, including feeder jams and placement errors
    • Performs preventive maintenance and cleaning of SMT equipment
    • Maintains production quality compliance with IPC standards
    • Supports continuous production flow in a high-volume manufacturing environment
    • Physical Requirements & Environment
    • Manufacturing environment with electronic assembly equipment exposure
    • Standing for extended periods is required during the shift
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly
    • Fine motor skill requirement for handling small electronic components
    • Work involves repetitive motion and attention to detail
