Job Description
The Inspector performs inspections and surveillance of commercial aircraft undergoing maintenance, repair, and overhaul to ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company quality standards. Verifies maintenance work, identifies discrepancies, and supports corrective actions to maintain airworthiness and safety.
- Education & Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- A&P License
- Minimum of 5 years of heavy commercial and/or military aircraft maintenance experience or 6 months as a skill level 3 mechanic
- Recorded training on at least three types of commercial aircraft
- Minimum of 2 years of inspection experience
- Preferred Skills
- GenFAM training on B737NG, B737 MAX, B747-400, B747-8, B757, B777, and/or B787 aircraft
- Knowledge of aircraft manuals and related technical documentation
- Familiarity with ATA codes, applicable FARs, and company policies and procedures
- Experience with maintenance documentation processes, including job cards, time cards, routine and non-routine cards, SRMs, service bulletins, and work sign-off procedures
- Experience replacing aircraft components, including hydraulic, air conditioning, pneumatic, and engine systems
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, flight control systems, landing gear servicing, troubleshooting, tire and brake changes, galley installation, engine starter removal and installation, cargo conversion, cockpit window and windshield replacement, entry door slide removal and replacement, brake riding, aircraft towing, powerplant removal and replacement assistance, main fuel control adjustment, and engine trim procedures
- Job Duties & Functions
- Perform initial inspections using customer-provided work instructions
- Inspect and approve or reject maintenance tasks and non-routine work on commercial aircraft
- Examine aircraft structures and components using specialized tooling and inspection equipment
- Calculate and verify aircraft weight and balance data
- Audit maintenance work packages for accuracy and compliance
- Sign logbook entries and airworthiness releases in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Inspect facilities and document findings related to compliance and safety
- Follow safe maintenance practices and maintain a clean work environment
- Record completed work on OJT forms for training documentation
- Complete assigned training courses as directed by supervision
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
- Physical Requirements & Environment
- Move efficiently throughout various areas of the aircraft
- Maintain focus and performance under physically demanding and high-pressure conditions
- Stand for extended periods, up to 90 percent of the workday, on hard surfaces
- Lift up to 25 pounds as required
