Job Description

Perform in-process and final inspections of manufactured parts, castings, forgings, and basic assemblies to verify compliance with engineering specifications, production work instructions, and quality system requirements. Responsibilities include inspecting chemical cleaning, plating, paint, coatings, and part markings, utilizing precision measurement instruments to verify close tolerance dimensions, documenting discrepancies, coordinating resolution with production and engineering teams, conducting First Article Inspections per AS9102, supporting inspection documentation, and assisting with bubble drawings, nonconformance requests, and inspection tooling certification.

    • Education & Job Requirements
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience inspecting manufactured aircraft parts.
    • Working knowledge of special tooling and machinery used in detailed part manufacturing.
    • Working knowledge of aircraft part fabrication process.
    • Ability to calculate tolerances using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
    • Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments and special tooling.
    • Ability to read and write in English.
    • Professional Attributes
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and departments.
    • Preferred Skills
    • AS9102 experience.
    • Working experience with an MRB system.
    • Working knowledge of Model-Based Definition (MBD) engineering.
    • Job Duties & Functions
    • Perform inspections of chemical cleaning, plating, paint, coatings, and part markings to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
    • Perform in-process and final inspections of manufactured parts, castings, forgings, and basic subassemblies and assemblies to verify compliance with engineering specifications and production work instructions.
    • Use and interpret precision measurement instruments and special tooling to verify close tolerance dimensions.
    • Monitor inspection tools to ensure current certification status.
    • Document discrepancies and coordinate resolution with Production, Methods, Engineering, and Material Review Board (MRB) as appropriate.
    • Ensure inspection documentation and production work instructions are complete and comply with the quality system and engineering specifications.
    • Ensure required certifications remain current.
    • Conduct First Article Inspections per AS9102 and populate Net-Inspect accordingly.
    • Assist with the creation of bubble drawings for First Article Inspections.
    • Assist with creating customer nonconformance requests per contracted procedures.
    • Assist other inspectors in the performance of their duties within areas of qualification.
    • Obtain working knowledge of the operation of a coordinate measuring machine or articulating arm under the guidance of the CMM Programmer and obtain certification.
