    • Role Summary
    • In this role, the System Safety Engineer ensures the safety and compliance of aircraft systems throughout their lifecycle. Responsibilities include conducting hazard analyses, developing and verifying safety requirements, supporting system safety assessments (e.g., AFHA, SFHA, PASA, PSSA, FMECA), collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, and applying model-based systems and safety engineering practices. The role requires expertise in SAE ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882 standards, structured safety programs, software safety lifecycle processes, and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to manage complex, integrated aircraft systems.
    • Education & Job Requirements
    • A minimum of 2 plus years of experience on aircraft or system development/sustainment programs that have utilized structured safety program processes or plans.
    • A Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field.?
    • Related degrees with relevant experience, such as military rotorcraft/powered life aviator or mechanic qualification, will be considered.
    • Advanced degrees will be considered as additional experience
    • Must have experience with software safety standards and requirements across the full development lifecycle from hazard identification through development to system/software qualification test is desired (e.g., DO-178C, MIL-STD-822, AMCOM385-17, Joint Software Safety Engineering Handbook)
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams in resolving complex, highly integrated functional systems problems.
    • Must be familiar with the civil safety process defined in Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) ARP-4761 and ARP-4754, and/or defense safety process defined in MIL-STD-882.
    • Experience or training in thedevelopment and application of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety analysis (MBSA) is desired.
    • Excellent communicator, able to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external, and brief leaders/customers.
    • Technical and functional understanding of aircraft and aircraft systems.
    • Operational understanding of aircraft, aircraft systems, and related support systems is highly desirable.
    • Must have direct experience in SAE ARP4761 analyses:
    • Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA/SFHAs)
    • Aircraft and System Safety Assessment (PASA, PSSA, ASA, SSA)
    • Particular Risk Analysis (PRA)
    • Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA)
    • Common Mode Analysis (CMA)
    • Direct Experience in MIL-STD-882 analyses:
    • Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Operational & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
    • Health Hazard Analysis (HHA)
    • System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA/SSHA)
    • Hazardous Materials
    • Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analyses (FMECA)
    • Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
    • Job Duties/Functions
    • Conduct Hazard Analysis: Identify and evaluate potential hazards in aircraft systems and subsystems throughout the product lifecycle.
    • Develop Safety Requirements: Define and verify system safety requirements, creating safety analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity and compliance.
    • Administer Safety Activities: Oversee system safety efforts for assigned program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring effective safety engineering practices.
    • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Interface with customers and IPT members on safety-related issues, providing expertise and guidance.
    • Monitor Safety Performance: Track and resolve system safety engineering issues, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to safety standards.
    • Communicate Safety Analyses: Present system safety engineering approaches and analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Support Model-Based Engineering: Assist in the development and application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) practices.
    • Contribute to Safety Management System: Support Client’s Safety Management System (SMS) for controlling, managing, and tracking program risks.
    • Establish Software Safety Requirements: Define software safety criteria and evaluate the functional impacts of noncompliance.
