- Job Purpose
- Upholsters all custom interior items and assembles seating units for aircraft installation or modification.
- Basic Qualifications (Requirements)
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years of recent V/VIP custom aircraft upholstery experience (will consider Yacht experience)
- A minimum of 1 year of recent commercial aircraft upholstery
- Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure repair manuals, understand symbols, flags, and general notes – identify aircraft locations by station, butt-line, and waterline as shown on engineering documentation and technical orders
- Must have advanced knowledge of upholstery and sewing processes and products and/or advanced carpet knowledge of FAA burn requirements for seating and panel covering
- Must have the ability to read, interpret, and apply FAA-approved or accepted data (i.e. IPC, M/M, OHM, SRM) proficiently
- Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language
- Must have own personal set of standard trade-specific tools
- Job Duties
- Cut and sew leather and/or fabric to recover parts such as interior panels and seats. Assist in foam build-up and shaping for aircraft seating.
- Builds seat shrouds, cuts cushions, and applies upholstery to seats, tables, and other equipment, in accordance with customer, engineering, and interior design specifications and drawings.
- Sew, fabricate, and install covers for all styles of panels in the aircraft interior while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards and goals.
- Interpret material specifications and design/engineering drawings to ensure the finished product meets design and engineering requirements.
- Ensure the work area is kept to the highest standards of safety and compliant at all times, enforcing regulationsand practices to avoid accidents. Ensure that good housekeeping practices are performed at all times.
- Perform the proper tagging of Aircraft components, parts, and panels appropriately stored (including racks by aircraft).
- Perform documentation procedures and sign-offs in accordance with the Repair Station Quality Manual and respective task requirements.
- Ensure that tools and equipment are correctly used and handled for both safety and to reduce breakages, and wear and tear.
- Ensure tooling, GSE, and ground equipment is returned to its proper storage area following use.
- Strive for continuous process improvements and increasing efficiencies in execution and delivery with safety as a priority.
- Maintain close and frequent communication with the Lead Technician or Supervisor, notifying him/her ofprogress and any roadblocks or threats to task accomplishment that could impact re-delivery.
- Deal with customers in a cordial, respectful, and professional manner.
- Ensure the highest quality service, safety standards, and performance, with the objective of exceeding customer satisfaction in the re-delivery of airworthy, reliable, and clean aircraft, in a timely manner.
- Take part in any required training as determined by the company.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Physical Activity/Requirements
- Requires frequent walking, standing, and/or climbing.
- Are expected to work through specially designed airframe, engine, and undercarriage openings while standing on ladders or scaffolds; to use hoists and lifts; require precision instruments and other necessary tools.
- Exposure to climate changes normally experienced in an aviation repair facility.
